Quilting can be very complicated or very easy depending on the pattern that I pick, the colors of the fabrics, the number of diffrent colors needed for each quilt and the amont of fabric needed from each color. I enjoy quilting because it can be very interesting putting diffrent color combinations together, light and dark fabrics. I have been quilting for aproxamatly Twenty years and taught myself by reading books on the subject, and reading patterns about how to put them together.
I have worked on many diffrent quilts durring the last twenty years. About three years ago I finally started to teach myself how to machine quilt, while I was at the Big E on Saturday I stopped at the Newman Sewing Machine display area and talked to the women who were working the booth there, and they were telling me about these wonderful new sewing machines. The sewing machines are way out of my budget so I will have to stick with old fatithful who has taken care of me for 20 years. As new attachments come out for quilting and sewing come out I go out and purchase them. when I started machine quilting I had to go out and buy what is called a walking foot which actually guides the fabric under the presserfoot of the sewing machine alot easier that doing it by hand. The women at the Big E were showing me how theyt free arm quilt which is quilting in a pattern that they design and not just straight lines which is the only way I know how to quilt so I guess its time to learn something new again I will have to go buy myself a new book.
ReplyDeleteI would say you are talented on quilting, i sure wouldn't have patients for it. i do like to macreme'. which it is just knotting cord to make thing like plant hangers and thing of those nature.
ReplyDeleteHi Liz,
ReplyDeleteI sounds like you have found a very satisfying hobby. Do you often use or gift your completed projects? I imagine it must be very cozy to curl up warm and snug beneath a quilt you made by hand.
Richelle, Macreme is still a work of art and I don't have the patience to do that but those plant hangers are beautiful and you can make me one anytime my Tommy has been looking for one for a long time and you can't find them anywhere... (just kidding about the making part not about the rest)
ReplyDeleteThom, I often make my quilts as gifts I made one last semester that was raffled off by what was left of the Business Association and then we donated the money a portion of the money that we raised to wigs for kids when they had the cut a thon for wigs for kids and if I have time and can get another one finished this semester I will donate one to the unity club to raffle for wigs for kids
